PlayMedia's latest technology, AMPhibian® is an advanced C++ audio "framework" designed for rapid cross-platform audio applications development. It is modular framework that supports an array of PlayMedia-produced and/or third-party-created "modules" for audio encoding/decoding and processing.

These modules enable developers to easily craft applications that will ultimately support a long list of music and speech codecs [such as the GSM standard "AMR" codec].

Modules available will enable various audio functions like MIDI ringtones, and incremental "cool" audio effects like crossfading, tempo, echo and soon - spatialization.

Support for popular DRM schemes are also modularizable within the framework.  AMPhibian® actualizes all this functionality across a variety of OS / Processor combinations in a single, elegant software framework enabling OEM's and ODM's to retain the same set of features in audio rendering while changing platforms "at will". This provides manufacturers and developers with a new paradigm in flexibility in both the marketing and engineering arenas.

For example, the in-house design team at a leading mobile terminal manufacturer could use AMPhibian® as the basis for multimedia players which provide the same, rich user experience whether running on ARM-Linux or ARM-WinCE.

AMPhibian® utilizes the well-regarded AMP® MP3 Decoder ("the AMP in WinAmp") which was the flagship product of PlayMedia when it began in 1998.

AMP® Licensees continue to include AOL Time Warner, Inc., and DMX Music, Inc., who uses PlayMedia codecs for its worldwide business-to-business music distribution infrastructure.
